What is it? … Home Edition #2
When you look at these photos, you’re looking at a piece of equipment that most homeowners never see but depend on heavily!
These photos show an HVAC coil, which is the part of your air conditioner that cools the air that blows through the vents in your home.
BUT, hopefully your A/C coil does NOT look like this!
The homeowners of this house apparently had not used a filter for their HVAC system in a very long time. Their coil was caked with disgusting dust and grime and could have also been harboring allergens and dangerous organic growth. The air blowing through the ductwork and vents into their home was struggling to pass through this caked mess when the A/C was running.
Not only could it create a health hazard, but it was likely causing damage to the HVAC system and higher utility bills because the system had to work harder.
Please take this as a reminder that even though changing your A/C filter seems like a small maintenance task that can be easily forgotten, it is extremely important to check and change your filter routinely.
Different manufacturers and units use different-sized filters and time interval recommendations, so please consider doing a quick check to make sure you’re up to date on your maintenance and filter changes so your system can operate properly!
Also, if you have indoor pets, your HVAC filter may need to be changed more frequently than the basic recommendations.
